Merry Christmas

Vicki and I send you all our warmest greetings and hope for a very merry Christmas with your family and friends and a New Year filled with blessings. It continues to amaze me just how quickly the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is, I am nowhere NEAR ready for Christmas yet. I have been so slack in sending out Christmas cards, which I really do enjoy doing, and I have not even begun my almost famous and looked forward to Family Christmas Letter that I have put out for the past several years. What in the world has happened? I just cannot seem to get my self going and as Christmas day gets closer and closer I feel more guilty each day because of my laziness. I hope none of you are having this same "sickness" that I have.

We had a GREAT time visiting Mom out in Fort Stockton, Texas during the Thanksgiving holidays and enjoyed some wonderful food and family time. It has been years since our family had been together and that, to me, is what makes the holidays so special. That time with your brothers and sisters, friends, Moms and Dads, and the memories of long ago Thanksgivings and Christmas days. Priceless!

Now we head into Christmas, parties, and again family get-togethers. We had our church decorating last Sunday and afterwards a wonderful meal with our members and guests. It was so much fun and our church looks so beautiful. The photo at the top is some of our great decorating work! I will try to add a few more as we go through this little get-together. I am still learning how things work on here, at least I am TRYING to learn!

We do not have any big plans for this Christmas, no trips and even the Schaefer Clan Christmas Party has been cancelled this year. We hope to meet up with some of our old friends during this holiday season as they come home to visit, that is always fun.
Merry Christmas to you, and may God bless you and your family in the New Year 2010!

Happy Holidays

I know I am doing a terrible job of keeping all of you up to date on my little neck of the woods, so here is a recent photo of Vicki and I at our Trunk or Treat event on Halloween. We put on our best makeup for the day, don't we look purty! We had a lot of fun and the kids did too.
We are still in the midst of our remodeling project but we can now see a light at the end of the mess. The walls are all textured now and partly painted, once we seal the tile floor in the kitchen, put together the cabinets, we can have our appliances installed and actually have a usable kitchen again! This could be done in the next week or so.
I am in the last month of college for this semester and it has been very trying for me, LOTS of homework and studying and reading and research papers, it was cutting quite a bit into all of my fun time. It will be nice to get the Christmas break and then its back at it again next year, which by the way, could be the year I graduate!
We hope all of you have a great holiday season, Vicki and I love this time of year, be good and we love you!

Try Again

I thought I would have trouble being up to date in the blogging world and I was right, I have way too many irons in the fire as they say! First and foremost is the remodeling of our home which takes most of our spare time and now college has begun in earnest and I am pretty loaded up this semester, two economic classes which so far have buried me with, I hate this word, homework! I am also taking one history class so my schedule of classes is: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 12:00 to 12:50 Economics 2301......Monday 6:00 to 9:00 PM History.....and Wednesday 6:00 to 9:00 PM Economics 2302.
Doesn't leave a lot of free time when you add in work and remodeling and I want to go to as many high school and Jr. High sports events as possible. I am a glutton for punishment! I WILL try to stay somewhat up to date on this blog, it may be my ONLY communication with any of you until this semester is over.
Nothing new since my last blog but I do go to Facebook and MySpace as often as I can to stay up to date on all of you who post on there.
We actually received a slight rain last night, not enough to do any good but it sure was nice while it lasted and at least we know it CAN rain in our neck of the woods. We even heard there was a cool front headed our way and by next week we will be in the mid to low 90's for highs, THAT, my friend, would be GREAT! It is hard to believe I can get excited about high's in the 90's but after so many 100 degree or higher days, the 90's sound pretty sweet.
No exciting weekend planned, we hope to get the rest of our insulation put up in the walls and then put up as much sheetrock as possible before we run out of gas. If we can get all of that done we will tape and float and then get ready to finish the walls and then finish the floor tile and then put in the cabinets and we will be pretty much done. It is really getting close, our area we are working in is pretty small so that gives me hope we can complete a lot of items this weekend, crossing my fingers!
High school and Junior High football has begun, and another season will get by me before I get the opportunity to get out there and be a part of that annual fall spectacle. There is real hope that by next year I COULD be a part of a high school or Junior high team in some capacity, I try to imagine what that will be like but I can't quite get it. After so long, so many distractions and missed opportunities I could be on the field as a coach, a lifelong dream since I was 16 years old. That moment in time will be priceless for me.
Hope all of you are doing well and I will close for now and hope to get back with you very soon.
Love,
David

Workload

Okay, I spoke WAY too soon about how my work day was much easier and fun since I was not disconnecting anyone's electricity because of the heat. It must have cooled down at least ONE stinking degree because every day since I made that bold statement I have been deluged with orders to disconnect electricity to homes. I am getting over 40 orders a day, all over this area, to disconnect and I am wondering how people can make it through these very hot days without their A/C or even a fan to stir the air around. I will be so glad when I do not have to do that to people anymore.
Other than that, not much has changed since my last first blog! We have made plans to start laying the floor down in our kitchen this weekend, YEEEHAAAW! Once we get that done, we can start moving our stuff back into the living room and kitchen and actually live like people in a real house instead of just in one room. And, don't forget, the big screen TV is installed right after the floor! YEEEHAAAW! Life is good!
We made it through hump day okay, and looking forward to the weekend. Maybe I will figure this site out and include photos. Don't count on it but I will try. See ya!

Here we go!

Okay, I am going to step out into the blogging world and see how I do. I have sat idly by and read other people's blogs and thought out loud that I could do that too, but never seriously considered it until now. As I sit here in my relatively "cool" living room after working out in yet another day of over 100 degree heat, and people, this is NOT the "dry" heat that they have out in Arizona, I am content to just sit here and doodle for awhile and enjoy this cooling off period of my day.
Someone mentioned to Vicki and I the other day that it was only FIVE more months until Christmas, and both our jaws dropped as we could not believe that over half of this year is already gone! It is amazing to me just how fast time does seem to go by now, and I can remember so clearly sitting in my classroom in high school thinking the day was NEVER going to end. A different perspective from a different age. I hear my grandkids groaning about how long the school day is, much less the school year, so they are still in the time is so slow mode!
Our remodeling project is still underway and sometimes I think we will be almost done in another week or so and then we dig into something and find a problem we did not anticipate and we are thrown for a loop, and we go in the holding pattern for a few days doing NOTHING! But we really are nearing completion in the living room, we ordered our cabinets, and then were told we have to wait three more weeks until they restock and have our cabinets available. So, in the meantime we plan on finishing every other little project and when the cabinets do arrive we just have to assemble them and put them up and then we are good to go! The big screen TV is only a month away!
Everyone out this way is doing okay, Jada and Dylan just returned from the other grandparents where they have been for the last two weeks and Leelynn and Zac have been busy helping Brandi and Buddy and little Trey has been into everything that he can get into without getting in too much trouble. Kylie turned THIRTEEN in June, so hard to believe, and Collin has a birthday coming up in August. They are all such GREAT kids, and I am not a prejudiced grandparent at all!
My work has been on the mild side the past couple of weeks, due to the hot weather we have not disconnected anyone's electricity and that has made my job a LOT easier and more fun too. I wish this would continue, not the hot weather, but the other part!
Okay, I am done for this blog, we will see if I can keep this going on any type of regular basis, if not, I will just continue to read what others write! As we said in our Vacation Bible School, "G'Day Mates!"
