News

Today Vicki and I played tennis with our good friends Bubba and Tanya Cox from Sabinal. We managed to get in one very competitive set, which Vicki and I won 7-6, and then headed to the local Dairy Queen for some grub, ice cream, and chit-chat. It was a lot of fun and we hope to do that again very soon.
Todays weather was pretty nice, sunny and warm, not near as windy and hot as yesterday and the wildfires that have been ravaging West Texas have been brought pretty much under control, thank goodness. I do not remember there ever being such a fire danger and then actually having fires that did get out of control and destroy a lot of property and livestock, a terrible, terrible event in our state.
News from out in Arizona that Tim has been given an offer for a job in the San Diego, California area and it appears that they will be moving there sometime during the summer. A great opportunity for Tim and Stephanie and we pray that it all works out well for them.

March 12, 2010

I know you thought I had forgotten to post daily or every other day as I said I was going to do but we had internet failure at our home for the past few days and I was unable to get online and update anything. So, there, you were wrong and I will accept all apologizies.
Not much to report though, our back yard dog, Puppy, (how is that for an original name?) keeps finding ways to break his leash and wander the neighborhood until we arrive home in the evenings and then he comes right up to us and we tie him back up. A few days, weeks later he is out again! Frustrating for us as we try to find a way to keep him in our yard at ALL times.
The weather has been ideal, cool, crisp mornings and nice, warm afternoons. Spring is almost here and we love it. My tennis racket is starting to rattle around in my closet, can't wait to get out on the courts and hit a few tennis balls.
We have big plans to get our kitchen cabinets set and in place and order our appliances delivered sometime next week. It will be so nice to have our kitchen back, at least most of it, and our long, drawn out remodeling project getting closer and closer to completion!
Okay, its late and I am out of here. Hope to have good update on kitchen cabinet remodeling project tomorrow, maybe even a photo or two to make it look really good. See ya!

March 6, 2010

Okay, I missed posting yesterday, not because I forgot but I was lazy and kept putting it off until it got too late and I decided to just go to bed. How is that for dedication? So, we are continuing with my every other day post for now.
Basketball season ended for our local high schools yesterday, Sabinal lost 76-64 to Mumford and suffered their first and ONLY loss of the season in that game and Knippa, which I apologize for not mentioning in any of my ramblings about Sabinal, also lost 70-62 to Leggett in the Regional Semi-Finals. Both teams had GREAT seasons and created memories that the players and coaches will cherish for a lifetime.
So, now it is on to tennis, which many of you may know is one of my favorite pasttimes and I really enjoy watching the local tournaments and sometimes getting to actually play sets against high school players in our area. The kids and coaches in this area are great in all sports, but when you get to know them better by playing against and with them, it makes it a lot more fun. Hope Vicki and I can get in a few sets against those young wipper-snappers!
Not sure what plans are for today, I am on call so will have to go to Uvalde soon and see if there are any reconnects for me to do, after that we will go clean the church and then we are free to do our own thing after that. I heard maybe a trip to San Antonio after lunch, that would be fun.
Weather today is cloudy and damp, not really cold but looks like it could lead to rain later today or tomorrow.

March 4, 2010

It is beginning to look like this is going to be an every OTHER day blog, I had another long day yesterday and just could not get my act together. After I finally arrived home after work Vicki and I decided to run the wire for out new satellite dish through our attic. Simple enough task we thought but we failed to take into consideration our age and how doing all of the crawling around crouched in the attic and being ever so cautious, another way to say SLOW, the strain on my poor knees and back was almost more than I could bare. But we did 'Git er done! as they say and today we have satellite TV and it is GREAT! I just may limp for another day or two but it was certainly worth the effort.
Tonight after work we went to watch Jada and her basketball team play in Uvalde, they gave a terrific effort and lost but it was so much fun to watch our sweet Jada turn into a dynamo on the basketball court. Her and her teammates really gave their all effort and we are very proud of them. They get to play again Saturday morning at 10 AM, hope we can go watch them play again.
I had to give another safety presentation before our work group in Eagle Pass this morning. I am still not used to doing things like this, but it is giving me some valuable experience at public speaking which I need. It is also taking a ton of my spare time in conference calls and training and practicing and making my work days much longer than before, and for not one cent raise in pay! Oh well, it is only for a few more months, I think I can put up with it that long.
Big day for the Sabinal Yellowjackets tomorrow as they play in the Region IV Class A Semi-Finals against Mumford. Sabinal is ranked 5th in the state and Mumford is ranked 2nd, should be a great game, wish I could be there.
I think I am going to end this here and go watch some satellite TV! See ya!

Bill & Pat Schaefer

Did anyone notice that I did not post anything for March 1st? I had every intention of getting in some very interesting stuff but I arrived home after 9 PM worn out from a long day at work and then my night history class. Needless to say, by the time I arrived at home sweet home I was ready to just eat, take a shower, and go to bed. And that was that!

Today was much better, work was still pretty hectic because of another early morning conference call, which will be a daily occurrance this week, and then the workload and right after work we loaded up and went to Sabinal to celebrate Bill Schaefer's birthday with family by eating at the Diner. Lots of fun, great family and great conversations. Family birthdays are so much fun and we enjoy getting together, wonder why we do not do it more often?
Beautiful weather today, in the upper 30's to start out and then a very nice 68 this afternoon. Chamber of Commerce day, Spring is getting closer and closer and I can hardly wait.

The Sabinal High School Boys Basketball team continued their undefeated ways by defeating Gervin Academy 63-56 and are now in the Regional Semi-Finals which will be played in Austin this Friday at high noon against Mumford, a school or town I have never heard of but they must have a pretty good basketball team of their own. I have to hope Sabinal wins because I am not able to go watch them, but could possibly go next week at the state tournament. I am crossing my fingers for the Yellowjackets to win out!

Okay, another exciting day has passed and I can't wait to see what is going to happen tomorrow. See ya!

Sunday, February 28th

Quail Springs & Central Christian
Church Choirs

We had a GREAT church service this morning, the choir from Quail Springs and our church choir teamed up to make for some terrific songs. One song that really got to me was "10,000 Angels Cried", WOW! I had never really listened to that song before, one of the Quail Springs choir members sang it as a solo, absolutely beautiful. What great words and the music and singing were right on as well. And, of course, our preacher gave us a really great message to go with all of the great singing!

After the service we all joined up in the fellowship hall for lunch and it is always fun to visit with everyone after church and catch up on the news of the day and week. After this Vicki and I just came home and basically did nothing but rest and relax at last! Fun!

I finished my first research paper of the semester in my history class, a so interesting topic of "The Mexican Revolution of 1910". Ugh, could it get much more boring than that? I know that it was a very significant historical event but man, it made for some pretty brutal reading and then trying to convey all of that information into a paper that made sense. I really struggled on this paper, hope the teacher is very nice and lenient.

The Sabinal High School Basketball team is still undefeated and will play in the area championship game in Castroville tomorrow night. They have enjoyed the best season in the history of SHS, I believe they are 30-0 right now and ranked 6th in the state. What an accomplishment and I wish them well the rest of the way!

We enjoyed another fabulous day weatherwise today, it began slightly cool but warmed up into the upper 60's again. One problem with today was that there was a little too much wind for me. It began blowing pretty stout out of the south after lunch, and right before sundown I noticed a few clouds beginning to take over the skyways. Chance of rain tomorrow and Tuesday.

Okay, gang, two in a row for me, let's see if I can continue this string. See ya!

Update

Okay gang, I am off on a new adventure in blogging, I plan on trying to do some sort of post every day. Kinda like a diary, but, hopefully, more fun. I do not know what I can find that might interest anyone on a daily basis, but I will come up with something. Today, Vicki and I are back on the remodeling trend as we attempt to get more done on our kitchen cabinets and prepare for the installation of our appliances so we can have a REAL kitchen again! You would be so proud of us, we have already fixed a severe water leak in our bathtub that was driving us crazy. What was so amazing about it is that it was pretty easy and quick to repair. We had been putting it off because it looked like it might be difficult. Everything that looked easy before this has turned into almost major replacement to fix, so this was SWEET! Now on to the cabinets!

We did get our upper cabinets in last weekend, they are very nice and now we can at last see what our kitchen might look like. I think we are going to like it. The picture at the top is what they look like, we will attempt to get in a couple of bottom cabinets today and even bring in some shelves that we have been storing and bring them in as well. New photos to follow!
BEAUTIFUL weather here today, plenty of sunshine and temps in the mid to upper 60's. Can't get much better than this and gets me so wishing for this every day. We have a few more cold days ahead but Spring is getting close, I have been by the tennis courts and saw they had a tournament in Uvalde this weekend. Hope to get in a few sets this year.
Off to the races now, time to get back to work before the day gets away from us and our goals. See you tomorrow!
